Join us every third Sunday of the month for Family+, a fun and free event for everyone! The museum is transformed into a creative hub where artists, makers, and musicians come together to offer a variety of exciting activities and workshops for kids, teens, and families+.
NOVEMBER PROGRAM:
I, Observe with Nathaniel Gabor
Join Nathaniel Gabor Professor of Quantum Physics at University of California Riverside for a workshop that combines are and science.
The quantum physicist Werner Heisenberg once said, “What we observe is not Nature itself but Nature exposed to our method of questioning.” In this program, we will explore how particles emerge from waves through our creative expression of observation. As observers of the physical world around us, our creativity can help distill the deeply mysterious relationship between our own (every day) experience and quantum reality.
Sun, Moon, and Stars with Sam Axtell and Saskia Kraft
A screen printing and quilting workshop responding to highlight Particles and Waves. Artisans and artists have used these art practices for many centuries and are both manual techniques that continue parallel to the current push toward digitalization. The techniques rely on the use of fabric – either as the material being stitched together or used to push screen printing ink through. Axtell and Kraft seek to use fabric to explore a shared art practice with each other and with the workshop participants.
Imagery of the astronomical research conducted and technological instruments fabricated in the Mount Wilson Observatory in Los Angeles County will be available as printouts in the workshop space. Participants of the workshop can draw inspiration from these and create abstract paper stencils responding to them. The paper stencils will then be used to create screen-printed images and patterns on fabric pieces. In the final step, the pieces of fabric will then be quilted together by hand or with sewing machines into larger textile arrangements that can become design objects such as placemats, napkins, the beginning of an experimental garment, or a wall-hanging artwork.
Family Love: Exploring Cyanotype with Nature and Words
Participants will use natural botanical stencils, poems, writings, and personal findings to create unique cyanotype prints that celebrate their interpretations of family love. Cyanotype involves printing using the suns UV rays and iron salts to create a printed blue image.

Join Crissy Hastings of Soulzenter for relaxing, family-friendly Yoga mini sessions, each lasting 30 minutes. From 12 to 4 PM, enjoy gentle yoga poses and focused breathwork that help you unwind and connect with your loved ones.
